Media Fragments
Also known as: Media Fragments URI, Media Fragment Identifier
Media Fragments is a W3C specification that defines a standard syntax for addressing specific portions of audio and video resources on the web using URI fragment identifiers. It allows users and applications to reference temporal segments (e.g., a specific time range within a video), spatial regions (e.g., a rectangular area within a frame), and individual tracks (e.g., a specific audio or subtitle track) without requiring specialized media server software. For accessibility, Media Fragments are important because they enable fine-grained linking to and annotation of specific parts of multimedia content, supporting use cases like time-stamped captions, audio descriptions tied to particular scenes, and navigation within long video content.
