Electropalatography

Also known as: EPG, Dynamic Palatography, Palatography

A technique for recording tongue-palate contact during speech using an artificial palate fitted with electrodes. When the tongue touches the palate, it completes a low-amperage electrical circuit that is detected and displayed visually in real time. In accessibility and deaf education, electropalatography provides visual feedback of articulatory placement to help deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals learn correct tongue positions for speech sounds, supplementing acoustic feedback they cannot fully access.
