Telegraphic Speech
Also known as: Telegraphic Input, Compressed Speech
A simplified form of communication that uses only essential content words (nouns, verbs, adjectives) while omitting function words (articles, prepositions, conjunctions) and grammatical inflections. In AAC and assistive technology contexts, telegraphic input allows users with severe motor impairments to communicate more efficiently by entering only key meaning-bearing words, with the system responsible for expanding the input into grammatically complete sentences. The term originates from the abbreviated style historically used in telegrams to minimize transmission costs.
