Audio Formatting
Also known as: Audio Rendering
The process of converting structured electronic documents into audio output that conveys not just textual content but also the logical structure and formatting of the original document. Audio formatting uses synthesizer parameters such as pitch, stereo positioning, speaking rate, and voice changes to represent visual layout cues like headings, subscripts, and emphasis. This approach reduces the need for verbose verbal descriptions of document structure, making audio renderings shorter and more comprehensible for blind and low-vision users accessing technical or structured documents.
