Electroencephalography

Also known as: EEG

A non-invasive method of recording electrical activity of the brain using electrodes placed on the scalp. In assistive technology, EEG is the primary sensing technology behind brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), which allow people with severe motor impairments such as paralysis or locked-in syndrome to communicate or control devices through their brain activity alone. EEG signals are analyzed using pattern recognition and machine learning techniques to identify distinct mental states that can be mapped to commands like moving a cursor, selecting letters, or controlling a wheelchair.
