Person-Technology Match

Also known as: PTM, Matching Person and Technology

A systematic approach to selecting assistive technology by evaluating the fit between a person's specific abilities, needs, preferences, and environment and the features and demands of available technologies. The person-technology match process recognizes that the most technically advanced solution is not always the best choice — factors like user comfort, stigma, learning curve, cost, and the environments where the technology will be used all influence whether a device will be adopted and effectively used. High assistive technology abandonment rates are often attributed to poor person-technology matching, making this assessment process critical to successful outcomes.
