Mobility Assessment

Also known as: Mobility Evaluation, Gait Assessment

A clinical evaluation that quantifies a person's movement capabilities, including walking pattern, balance, and motor performance. Mobility assessments are used to diagnose conditions like Parkinson's Disease, monitor disease progression, and plan treatment. Traditional assessments require specialized laboratory equipment such as pressure-sensitive walkways or motion-capture cameras, which are expensive and limited to hospital settings. Wearable sensor-based systems are emerging as accessible alternatives that enable mobility monitoring in homes and community settings, reducing barriers for people who cannot easily travel to specialized facilities.
