Depth Camera

Also known as: Depth Sensor, RGB-D Camera, 3D Camera

A depth camera is a device that captures both standard visual imagery and per-pixel distance information, producing a 3D representation of the scene. Technologies include structured light (projecting patterns and measuring distortion), time-of-flight (measuring how long light takes to return from surfaces), and stereo vision (using two offset cameras). In accessibility applications, depth cameras like the Microsoft Kinect and Intel RealSense are used for hand tracking, gesture recognition, sign language recognition, and body-skeleton tracking, enabling non-contact interaction methods for people with various disabilities.
