Notification Fatigue
Also known as: Alert Fatigue, Information Overload
Notification fatigue is a state in which users become desensitized to or overwhelmed by frequent alerts, notifications, or information delivery from a device or system, causing them to ignore or tune out important messages. In accessibility contexts, notification fatigue is a significant design challenge for assistive navigation and environmental awareness systems that convey visual or spatial information to blind users through audio or haptic channels. When too much information is relayed too frequently, users experience stress and begin to disregard the output, undermining the system's usefulness. Effective assistive system design must balance providing sufficient information with avoiding overload.
