Aural Interface
Also known as: Voice Interface, Voice-Controlled Interface, Voice User Interface
An aural interface is a user interface that relies primarily on spoken language for both input (voice commands) and output (spoken responses). Examples include Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri, and Google Assistant. While aural interfaces have become increasingly popular due to their convenience and natural interaction style, they pose significant accessibility barriers for deaf and hard-of-hearing users who cannot hear spoken output, and for individuals with speech disorders whose voice input may not be accurately recognized. Accessible aural interfaces should provide visual or text-based alternatives for both input and output to ensure usability across diverse users.
