Finger Tracking

Also known as: Fingertip Tracking, Finger Detection, Hand Tracking

Computer vision or sensor-based technology that detects and follows the position and movement of a user's fingers in real-time. In accessibility applications, finger tracking enables hands-free interaction with tactile graphics, touchscreens, and physical objects by monitoring where users point or touch. Systems may use cameras with image processing algorithms, depth sensors, or touch-sensitive surfaces to identify fingertip locations. Finger tracking allows assistive technologies to provide contextual audio feedback based on what a user is exploring, enabling people who are blind to receive information about tactile materials without removing their hands to operate separate controls.
