Exergame

Also known as: Exercise Game, Exergaming, Active Video Game

A video game that requires physical activity beyond traditional handheld controller manipulation, combining gaming with exercise. Exergames use motion sensors, cameras, balance boards, or other input devices to track body movements as game controls. In rehabilitation contexts, exergames provide engaging, motivating therapy exercises that can be performed at home, with game mechanics providing real-time feedback on movement quality. Accessible exergame design must consider varied physical abilities, offering difficulty scaling, alternative input modes, and meaningful participation for users with different movement capacities.
