CCTV

Also known as: Closed Circuit Television, Video Magnifier, Desktop Video Magnifier, Electronic Magnifier

A camera-based magnification system used by people with low vision to enlarge text and images on a monitor. Traditional CCTVs consist of a camera mounted over a reading platform that captures material placed beneath it and displays it magnified on an attached screen. Modern video magnifiers offer features like adjustable magnification levels, contrast enhancement, color modes (including black/white reversal), and reading lines or masks to help track text. CCTVs remain one of the most commonly prescribed low vision aids because they allow natural reading posture and can magnify any printed material. Portable handheld versions and head-mounted systems have expanded CCTV technology beyond desktop use.
