EyeMusic

A visual-to-auditory sensory substitution device that converts images into sound, enabling people who are blind to perceive visual information including shape, location, and color. EyeMusic uses a left-to-right sweep algorithm where horizontal position maps to time, vertical position to musical pitch, brightness to volume, and different colors to distinct musical instruments. Developed at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, EyeMusic is freely available on iOS and Android and requires only standard headphones. It has been used for object recognition, navigation, and learning visual concepts.
