Biometric Authentication

Also known as: Biometrics, Biometric Security, Behavioral Biometrics

Security technology that uses unique biological or behavioral characteristics to verify identity, including fingerprints, facial recognition, iris scans, voice patterns, and handwritten signatures. Accessibility considerations are critical because many biometric systems assume physical capabilities that not all users possess—fingerprint sensors may not work for people with dry skin or certain skin conditions, facial recognition can struggle with users who have facial differences or use assistive devices, and signature-based systems may exclude people with motor impairments. Inclusive biometric design considers diverse user populations including older adults and people with disabilities.
