Transcript
Also known as: Text Transcript, Video Transcript, Audio Transcript
A written document containing the complete text of spoken content from a video or audio recording, presented separately from the media rather than synchronized with it. Unlike captions, which appear on-screen in real time as speech occurs, transcripts provide all text at once, allowing readers to consume content at their own reading pace. While transcripts are less expensive to produce than captions ($1.50-3/minute vs $9-30/minute for captions), research shows deaf users strongly prefer captions because synchronized text is easier to follow without constantly switching attention between video and separate text. Transcripts remain useful for reference, research, searchability, and as a backup when captions are unavailable.
