Augmented Reality

Also known as: AR, Mixed Reality

A technology that overlays digital information—such as images, text, or 3D models—onto the user's view of the real world, typically through smartphones, tablets, smart glasses, or projection systems. Unlike virtual reality which replaces the real environment, augmented reality enhances it with contextual digital content. In accessibility applications, AR has been used to provide navigation assistance for people with visual impairments, display real-time captions or sign language interpretation, and guide workers with cognitive disabilities through complex assembly tasks by projecting instructions directly onto workspaces. Industrial Augmented Reality (IAR) specifically refers to AR applications in manufacturing, maintenance, and workplace settings.
