Workplace Accommodation

Also known as: Reasonable Accommodation, Job Accommodation, Work Adjustment

Modifications or adjustments to a job, work environment, or the way work is performed that enable a qualified person with a disability to perform essential job functions and enjoy equal employment opportunities. Workplace accommodations may include physical changes (accessible workstations, ergonomic equipment), schedule modifications (flexible hours, additional breaks), assistive technologies (screen readers, speech recognition, projection-based guidance systems), job restructuring, or policy changes. Under laws like the Americans with Disabilities Act, employers are required to provide reasonable accommodations unless doing so would cause undue hardship. Effective accommodations focus on removing barriers while enabling the employee to contribute their skills.
