Transformative Access
A concept from disability justice that redefines accessibility beyond structural adjustments or compliance with standards. Introduced by the disability justice group Sins Invalid, transformative access advocates not only for removing barriers but for shifting societal norms to embrace disability as part of human diversity. It emphasizes that accessibility should foster equitable spaces where disabled people can actively participate, influence, and shape their environments—rather than merely accessing services designed by and for non-disabled people. This perspective positions access as collective and relational rather than individual and technical.
