Aging in Place

Also known as: Aging at Home

The ability to live in one's own home and community safely, independently, and comfortably regardless of age, income, or ability level. Aging in place is a preference for most older adults and involves adapting living environments, accessing supportive services, and using assistive technologies to maintain independence. For accessibility practitioners, supporting aging in place means designing technologies that accommodate changing abilities, integrate with home environments, and connect older adults with healthcare and social services while respecting privacy and autonomy.
