Textile Crafts

Also known as: Fiber Arts, Fiber Crafts

Textile crafts are hand processes that produce or use textiles (flexible materials made from fibres and filaments) for functional and aesthetic applications. Common textile crafts include knitting, crochet, sewing, weaving, embroidery, quilting, spinning, and felting. In accessibility research, textile crafts are significant both as activities that people with disabilities engage in (with various barriers and adaptations) and as a domain for developing accessible maker technologies. The accessibility of different textile crafts varies based on their visual, motor, and cognitive demands—for example, spinning relies more on tactile feel and muscle memory, while embroidery requires sustained visual attention.
