Spinal Cord Injury
Also known as: SCI
Damage to the spinal cord that results in loss of function, mobility, or sensation below the level of injury. Injuries are classified as complete (total loss of function below the injury) or incomplete (some function preserved). The higher the injury on the spinal cord, the more extensive the paralysis—cervical injuries may result in quadriplegia while thoracic or lumbar injuries typically cause paraplegia. For accessibility, SCI users require input methods and interfaces matched to their level of function, which may change during rehabilitation or with aging.
