Social Networking Site

Also known as: SNS, Social Network, Social Media Platform

A social networking site (SNS) is an online platform that enables users to create profiles, connect with others, share content, and engage in social interactions. Examples include Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Instagram, and WhatsApp. For accessibility, SNS design presents significant challenges: interfaces often rely on complex interactions, rapidly changing features, and terminology unfamiliar to some users. Research shows older adults and people with disabilities face barriers including privacy concerns, confusing navigation, inaccessible content, and lack of alternative interaction modalities. Inclusive SNS design requires clear layouts, customizable text, understandable language, voice interaction support, and privacy-by-default settings.
