Hemiparesis
Also known as: Hemiplegia, One-Sided Weakness
Weakness or partial paralysis affecting one side of the body, commonly resulting from stroke, traumatic brain injury, or neurological conditions. Hemiparesis affects motor control, coordination, and strength in the arm, leg, and sometimes face on the affected side. People with hemiparesis may develop "learned non-use," avoiding their impaired limbs, which can worsen outcomes. Rehabilitation focuses on repetitive exercises to encourage brain plasticity and restore function. Accessible technology design should accommodate one-handed use and asymmetric motor abilities.
