Video Remote Interpreter

Also known as: VRI, Video Remote Interpreting, Video Relay Interpreting

A video telecommunication service that provides sign language interpretation remotely via video connection. VRI allows deaf or hard of hearing individuals to communicate with hearing people through an off-site interpreter who appears on a screen, translating between sign language and spoken language in real time. While VRI offers flexibility and can reduce costs compared to in-person interpreters, it depends on reliable video quality and may be less effective in complex medical or legal situations where an on-site interpreter would be preferred.
