Haptic Device

Also known as: Haptic Interface, Force-Feedback Device, Tactile Device

A hardware device that provides tactile or force feedback to users, enabling them to feel virtual objects, textures, resistance, or vibrations. Haptic devices range from simple vibration motors in smartphones to sophisticated force-feedback systems like the Geomagic Touch (formerly Phantom Omni) used in medical training and accessibility research. In accessibility contexts, haptic devices can provide non-visual feedback for blind users, enhance engagement in motor skill training, and create richer interaction experiences in virtual environments. Research shows haptic feedback helps users understand their manipulations and improves learning outcomes in skill training applications.
