Fiber Arts
Also known as: Textile Arts, Textile Crafts
Creative practices involving the manipulation of fibers or textiles, including weaving, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, quilting, and felting. Fiber arts are increasingly explored in accessibility research as sites for inclusive making, where tactile feedback and rhythmic processes can support participation by people with vision impairments. These crafts also connect to computing history—the Jacquard loom, with its punch-card programming, is considered an early precursor to modern computers.
