Facial Gesture Recognition

Also known as: Face Tracking, Facial Expression Recognition

Technology that uses cameras and computer vision algorithms to detect and interpret facial movements and expressions in real time. For accessibility, facial gestures such as opening the mouth, raising eyebrows, smiling, or nose movements can be mapped to computer commands, effectively replacing physical switches. This allows people with motor disabilities who retain facial muscle control to interact with computers hands-free. Systems typically track multiple facial landmark points and monitor changes in distances between them to detect specific gestures.
