Social Communication
Also known as: Social-Communication, Pragmatic Communication
The use of language and nonverbal behavior in social contexts, encompassing skills such as taking turns in conversation, adjusting communication style based on the listener or situation, understanding nonliteral language, and interpreting social cues. Difficulties with social communication are a core characteristic of Autism Spectrum Disorder and can also occur as Social (Pragmatic) Communication Disorder. Technology-based interventions often target social communication skills through structured practice in controlled environments like virtual reality, collaborative games, or social skills training software.
