Wernicke's Aphasia

Also known as: Fluent Aphasia, Receptive Aphasia, Sensory Aphasia, Posterior Aphasia

A type of aphasia caused by damage to Wernicke's area in the left temporal lobe of the brain. People with Wernicke's aphasia can produce fluent speech with normal rhythm and grammar, but their words often don't make sense—they may use incorrect words, made-up words (neologisms), or produce sentences that lack meaning. Critically, they have significant difficulty understanding spoken and written language, often unaware that their speech is incomprehensible. This comprehension deficit makes Wernicke's aphasia particularly challenging for technology design, as users may struggle to understand instructions, feedback, or incoming messages.
