Assistive Robot

Also known as: Personal Assistive Robot, Socially Assistive Robot, Caregiving Robot

A robot designed to assist people with disabilities, older adults, or those with chronic conditions in performing daily activities or maintaining independence. Assistive robots may provide physical assistance (manipulation, mobility), cognitive support (reminders, step-by-step guidance), or social interaction (companionship, communication). They can be mobile or stationary, and typically combine sensing, actuation, and artificial intelligence to respond to user needs. Research suggests physically embodied robots may be more acceptable to users than disembodied smart home systems.
