Caption Flow
Also known as: Captioning Flow, Text Flow
The smoothness and regularity with which caption text appears and updates on screen during real-time captioning. Good caption flow means text arrives at a consistent pace without jarring delays, sudden bursts, or choppy delivery. Research shows that caption flow significantly affects readability and comprehension for deaf and hard of hearing viewers, sometimes mattering as much as verbatim accuracy. Factors affecting flow include latency, the captioner's typing rhythm, how corrections are handled, and whether text is delivered word-by-word or in phrases.
