Care Staff
Also known as: Care Worker, Direct Care Worker, Personal Care Aide, Care Assistant
Individuals who provide day-to-day personal care and support to residents in care facilities, including assistance with eating, bathing, dressing, toileting, and mobility. Care staff are distinct from medical professionals such as nurses and doctors; they typically receive basic training in moving and handling but are not clinically trained. As a user group for technology, care staff have been largely overlooked despite being critical to resident wellbeing. They often work demanding 12-hour shifts with limited time for non-essential tasks, may have varying levels of literacy and computer experience, and frequently experience high turnover rates. Technology designed for care staff must be intuitive, require minimal training, and fit into brief time windows during busy routines.
