Ubiquitous Accessibility

Also known as: Accessibility Everywhere

A vision for accessibility in which individuals can invoke their needed assistive technologies or access features on any computing device they encounter, rather than being limited to personally owned and configured equipment. As computing becomes embedded in public spaces, workplaces, and shared devices, traditional models of installing assistive technology on a personal machine become inadequate. Ubiquitous accessibility proposes that access features should be available on demand through the cloud or built into infrastructure, enabling people with disabilities to use library computers, hotel business centers, airport kiosks, and other shared technology with the same ease as personally owned devices. This concept influenced the development of cloud-based accessibility services and the Global Public Inclusive Infrastructure (GPII).
