SIGACCESS
Also known as: ACM SIGACCESS, SIGCAPH, Special Interest Group on Accessible Computing
The ACM Special Interest Group on Accessible Computing, the primary professional organization within ACM dedicated to accessibility research. Originally founded as SIGCAPH (Special Interest Group on Computers and the Physically Handicapped) in the 1970s, the group was renamed SIGACCESS in 2004 to reflect a broader, more contemporary understanding of disability and accessibility. SIGACCESS sponsors the annual ASSETS conference (ACM Conference on Computers and Accessibility), the premier academic venue for accessibility research since 1994. The group also co-sponsors the ACM Transactions on Accessible Computing (TACCESS), launched in 2008, and presents the SIGACCESS Award for Outstanding Contributions to Computing and Accessibility.
