Quality of Communication Life Scale

Also known as: QCL, ASHA QCL

A self-report assessment developed by ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association) that measures how communication disorders affect an individual's quality of life. The QCL evaluates domains including socialization, confidence, roles and responsibilities, and independence in daily communication activities. Unlike clinical assessments that measure language abilities directly, the QCL captures the lived experience of communication disability, making it valuable for accessibility research that aims to understand how assistive technologies affect users' participation in social life beyond task performance.
