Transcription

Also known as: Speech-to-Text Transcription, Real-Time Transcription

The process of converting spoken language into written text, either in real time or after the fact. In accessibility contexts, transcription services provide communication access for deaf and hard of hearing individuals by producing text versions of spoken content in classrooms, meetings, conferences, and media. Real-time transcription can be performed by trained human captionists using systems like CART or C-Print, or by automatic speech recognition (ASR) technology. Transcripts also benefit people who prefer reading to listening, non-native language speakers, and anyone needing a searchable text record of audio content.
