Lee Silverman Voice Treatment

Also known as: LSVT, LSVT LOUD

An evidence-based speech therapy programme originally developed for individuals with Parkinson's disease that focuses on increasing vocal loudness as the primary mechanism for improving overall speech clarity. LSVT trains patients to "think loud" and speak with greater effort, which has been shown to also improve articulation, intonation, and speech intelligibility. The treatment has demonstrated effectiveness for other neuromotor speech conditions including Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, and Down syndrome. A key challenge with LSVT is generalisation — patients often improve in clinical settings but struggle to maintain increased loudness during daily conversation without ongoing cues or reminders.
