Nonvisual Accessibility
Also known as: Non-Visual Access
Nonvisual accessibility refers to approaches, strategies, and technologies that enable people who are blind or have low vision to access information and interact with digital and physical environments without relying on sight. This encompasses screen readers, braille displays, audio descriptions, tactile graphics, and other assistive technologies, as well as the design practices that support them such as proper alt text, semantic HTML, and keyboard navigation. Nonvisual accessibility also involves understanding how people who are blind make sense of inherently visual phenomena like appearance, identity, and spatial relationships through alternative sensory channels and social strategies.
