Crowd-AI System
Also known as: Hybrid Crowd-AI, Human-AI System
A system that combines human crowdsourced input with artificial intelligence to accomplish tasks that neither can handle well alone. In accessibility contexts, crowd-AI systems are used for visual question answering, image description, and environmental sensing. Crowd workers provide initial labels or answers that train machine learning models over time, allowing the AI to progressively take over routine tasks while humans handle novel or ambiguous cases. This hybrid approach enables faster deployment and broader coverage than pure AI, while being more scalable and cost-effective than relying solely on human labelers.
