Text Justification

Also known as: Text Alignment, Justified Text

The alignment of text along the left and/or right margins of a text block. Left-aligned (ragged right) text has even spacing between words and an uneven right edge, while fully justified (left-right) text has even margins on both sides but variable word spacing. Some accessibility guidelines recommend left-only justification because the uneven word spacing in fully justified text can create "rivers of white space" that make reading difficult for people with dyslexia or cognitive disabilities. However, empirical research has shown mixed results on whether justification significantly affects reading performance.
