Neurofeedback

Also known as: EEG Biofeedback, Neurotherapy

Neurofeedback is a type of biofeedback that uses real-time monitoring of brain electrical activity (typically via EEG) to teach individuals to self-regulate their brain function. Users receive feedback — often through visual, audio, or game-based interfaces — about their current brain state and learn to maintain desired patterns such as focused attention or relaxation. Neurofeedback has been shown effective for treating ADHD symptoms, reducing seizure frequency in epilepsy, and supporting cognitive rehabilitation for individuals with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) and other cognitive impairments. In accessibility contexts, neurofeedback training through engaging game-based interfaces can help individuals with cognitive disabilities develop self-regulation skills.
