Depth Sensor

Also known as: Depth Camera, RGB-D Sensor, 3D Sensor

A device that captures three-dimensional depth information about a scene in addition to standard two-dimensional imagery. Depth sensors measure the distance from the camera to objects in the environment, enabling more accurate detection and tracking of faces, hands, and body positions than conventional cameras alone. In accessibility applications, depth sensors improve the reliability of gesture-based and face-tracking assistive interfaces by providing richer spatial data, reducing the impact of lighting variations and background clutter on tracking accuracy.
