Primary Progressive Aphasia
Also known as: PPA
A neurodegenerative condition in which language abilities gradually deteriorate over time, in contrast to stroke-induced aphasia which occurs suddenly and may improve with therapy. Primary Progressive Aphasia is caused by progressive damage to brain areas responsible for language, and is associated with conditions such as frontotemporal dementia and Alzheimer's disease. People with PPA may initially experience difficulty finding words or forming sentences, with symptoms worsening over months and years. The progressive nature of PPA makes longitudinal monitoring of language abilities particularly important for tracking disease progression and evaluating interventions.
