Voice Augmentation

Also known as: Audio Augmentation, Voice-Based Augmentation

A technique for enhancing user interfaces by adding spoken audio feedback to supplement visual information on screen. Voice augmentation provides contextual support through spoken confirmations of user input, notifications of errors or status changes, suggestions for next actions, and summaries of page content. Originally developed to assist blind screen reader users, voice augmentation has been extended to support other groups including older adults and novice users who may lack confidence when interacting with complex web applications. Unlike screen readers which replace visual access entirely, voice augmentation adds a secondary audio channel that works alongside the visual interface.
