Spoken Dialogue System

Also known as: SDS, Voice Dialogue System

A computer system that communicates with users through spoken natural language, allowing them to interact via voice rather than visual or manual interfaces. Spoken dialogue systems are used in telecare, customer service, and home care applications, and are particularly relevant for accessibility because they can serve users who have difficulty with dexterity, vision, or literacy. Unlike simple touch-tone interactive voice response (IVR) systems, SDS allow users to respond verbally, making them potentially more intuitive and accessible for diverse populations.
