Design Exclusion
Also known as: Exclusion Audit, Technology Exclusion
The process by which certain users are prevented from effectively using a product or service due to mismatches between the design of the technology and their abilities, circumstances, or available resources. Design exclusion can result from physical, sensory, or cognitive barriers in the interface, or from assumptions about what technology users have access to. Exclusion audits systematically estimate the proportion of a target population that would be unable to use a given technology, helping designers identify and address barriers before deployment.
