Color Sonification

Also known as: Colour Sonification, Color-Audio Encoding

The process of translating colour information into audible sound signals, enabling people who are blind or have visual impairments to perceive colour through hearing. Color sonification systems typically map different colour properties (such as hue, saturation, and luminosity) to distinct audio dimensions like instrument timbre, pitch, and volume. This form of sensory substitution allows users to identify colours and understand the colour composition of images or environments without relying on vision.
