Stereoscopic Camera

Also known as: Stereo Camera, Depth Camera, 3D Camera

A camera system that uses two or more lenses to capture images from slightly different perspectives, mimicking human binocular vision to compute depth information (disparity maps). In accessibility applications, stereoscopic cameras are used in assistive devices for visually impaired people to detect obstacles, measure distances to objects, and build spatial models of the environment. By providing depth data alongside standard imagery, these cameras enable more accurate obstacle detection than single-lens cameras, particularly for identifying hazards at various distances from the user.
