Semantic Network

Also known as: Semantic Web, Associative Network

A knowledge representation structure in which concepts are represented as nodes and the relationships between them as links or edges. In accessibility and AAC contexts, semantic networks model how words and concepts are associated in the human mind, enabling vocabulary tools to suggest related words based on meaning rather than rigid categories. This approach mirrors the way the mental lexicon naturally organises language, making word retrieval more intuitive for people with communication disabilities.
